Diversity
Diversity comes in many different forms. I strive to be a life long learner and continue to grow as an educator by understanding my students. At John Champe High School I have taught a very diverse group of students.
I have learned a lot about Muslim practices to better understand the needs of my students. I host the Muslim Student Association in my room every Wednesday. My room is also open to Muslim students when they need to pray.
For two years I sponsored the American Sign Language club to provide students who were passionate to learn and communicate with people who are in the hard of hearing community and the deaf community.
I provide a safe space for all LGBTQIA+ students. I support students by normalizing their pronouns, names, and providing a gender neutral uniform for my choir students.
In choir, my classroom is open to all students who want to learn how to sing. I have taught students who are blind, non-verbal, English language learners, students with IEP’s, students who are gifted and talented, and students with 504 plans. My goal is for all students to have a positive learning environment where they feel safe and treated with respect.
